Mehmed I Çelebi (nicknamed Kirisci,Executioner) was one ofsonssultan Beyazid I ofOttoman Empire. When Timur Lenk defeatedOttomans inBattleAnkaracivil war broke out inempire, calledOttoman Interregnum. Mehmed gained some landsAnatolia, which attime gave him access tolargest sourcemanpower inOttoman lands. Mehmed supported his brother Musa inoverthrowmurdertheir eldest sibling, Emir SulaimanRoumelia1410. When Musa's harsharbitrary rule made enemies at home as well as abroad, Mehmed made an alliance withByzantine Emperor Manuel II. With access toDardanelles, Mehmed quickly overran Thracehad Musa killed. When Mehmed stood as victor1413 he crowned himself as sultanAdrianople (Edirne). He restoredempire, movedcapitol from BursaAdrianopleconquered partsAlbania,Turkish emirate Candar andChristian KingdomCilicia. Howvere, as parths 1410/1411 alliance, Mehmed recognizedByzantine Emperor as his "fatheroverlord"remained loyalthis anomaly - which must count aslast diplomatic triumph ofEastern Roman Empire. Mehmed died1421.
