Ghost town

A ghost town istown that has been abandoned, usually becauseeconomic activity that supportedhas failed.

Ghost townscommonmining areas Colorado, Arizona, Nevada, Montana,California inwestern United States, British Columbiawestern Canada,partsAustralia. Old mining camps that have lost mosttheir population at some stagetheir history, such as Central City, Colorado; Aspen, Colorado; Tombstone, Arizona or Cripple Creek, Coloradosometimes included incategory, although theyactive townscities today.

Other factors leadingabandonmenttowns include natural resources such as water no longer being available,railroadshighways bypassing or no longer accessingtown, shifting economic activity elsewhere. Chance significant fatality from epidemics has also produced ghost towns;example, some placeseastern Arkansas were abandoned after near-total morbidity duringSpanish Flu pandemic.

Some ghost townstourist attractions, especially those that preserve interesting architecture. Visiting, writing about,photographing them isminor industry. Other ghost towns may be overgrown, difficultaccess, or illegalvisit.
